In the 1920s, Soviet power came to the remote areas of the Polesie swamps. However, the wealthy owners of the village of Kureni had no intention of giving up their land to the peasants. Gangs intimidated them. But the peasants themselves took the first step: the entire village came out to build a causeway across the swamp - a road to a new life.
