After separating from his wife, Tommy decides to take a pilgrimage to the Trona Pinnacles in the Mojave desert. He is joined by his brother Jack, who he hasn't seen in five years. Their efforts at reconciliation are cut short when Tommy's truck dies and they are forced to try and walk 17 miles out of the desert. Without water, and suffering from fatigue and severe heat exhaustion, Tommy has to rely on the help of Jack as they make their way to the main road.
